Fire Horses – Mesmerising Event On Omey Strand

Fire Horses, Omey Island

Every now and then something happens in Connemara that is totally unexpected, highly unusual and full of surprises.

Clifden Arts Week is a good time to encounter this sort of event. Given the rather wet and windy evening that the closing parade experienced this year the highlight of the festival had to be “Fire Horses” by Landscape Theatre Specialists LUXE which was held as the sun set on Omey Strand last Friday evening.
The rain had stopped and the moon rose as scores of people made their way down to Omey Strand to see the spectacular illuminated processions across the beautiful Omey Strand

Working with local schoolchildren and the community and using large and fascinating lantern imagery alongside quirky vehicles transporting fiery horse sculptures, actors in costumes and exotic music LUXE created a mesmerizing event, Omey Has never experienced anything quite like this before!

This event is a special celebration of the Connemara Pony Breeders Society centenery, and pays homage to the rich history of tidal pony races on Omey Strand.

This event was captivating and people of all ages were fascinated bay everything that was going on.
There were seldom so many people on the strand and all of them will remember Fire Horses as a great evening for a long while to come.
